College can be just a dream for families that have financial need. The Rotary Club of Dallas is helping make that dream come true.

This is the fifth year for the Dream Team at Woodrow Wilson. Teachers recommend the students to the Rotary Club for consideration. Each year six sophomore student with financial need are accepted for the monthly program.

The students must attend every session, maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average and be involved in community service. Each student is assigned to Rotary mentors who help prepare them for college. Then the Rotary Club provides them with college scholarships.

The students said that a whole world of options and opportunities have been opened for them. Rotary mentors help open doors but it's up to the students to keep the door open, walk through and succeed â€" and they do.

The Dream Team is only at Woodrow Wilson, but the Dallas Independent School District would like to expand it to other schools. One of the keys to making that happen is getting other clubs to volunteer as mentors in new schools.

What does the Dream Team mean? Dallas Rotarians Enabling Achievement Mentoring Scholars.
