District Governor Bill Slicker's Message
We're off to an exciting start of the new Rotary year beginning July 1. I am grateful for my District Governor Installation (Read Bill Slicker's Bio). A good time was had by all. See the photos.
I've had the pleasure to visit 9 Rotary clubs and 1 Officer Installation, during July. The R.I. Convention in Tortonto, Canada was a wonderful time for all those that attended.
R.I. President Barry Rassin's article in the August Rotarian is a real eye opener. Read his article and see how you can Be The Inspiration
August is Membership Month. Let's go all out to invite new members as we serve our local community.

Hosting A Rotary Day

RI President Barry Rassin has challenged clubs and Rotarians to Be The Inspiration in 2018-19. One of the ways Rassin would like to see clubs do this is by hosting a Rotary Day. Any club big or small can host a Rotary Day, and several clubs can combine to share ideas, talent, and resources. President Rassin is urging clubs to organize fun, informal community events called Rotary Days. Any club, big or small, can host a Rotary Day. Pooling resources with neighboring clubs to co-host and event is a great way to build Rotary Fellowship. Link to additional information on how to host a Rotary Day    https://my.rotary.org/en/why-and-how-host-rotary-day

Plano Metro Donates $65,000 to H.E.R.O.E.S

The Plano Metro Rotary Club recently gave $65,000 to H.E.R.O.E.S., a Richardson-based provider of educational programs for individuals with disabilities. The nonprofit was the winner of the club’s first Plano Metro Rotary Foundation Grant. Funds were used to purchase a wheelchair-accessible bus, allowing students with mobility impairments to attend excursions such as zip-lining, bowling and group art lessons.

The Plano Metro Rotary Foundation was established in 2002, as a way to provide funds for Plano ISD vocational scholarships and other community needs identified by the club.

Irving-Las Colinas Flag Program Expands
This year, for the Fourth of July, on the suggestion of a local resident to dress up a city-owned park with flags, our club launched its first “commercial” component of the flag program.  Fifty flags, one tagged for each state, were anchored around the city’s Millennium Park Fountain at City of Irving, Texas - City Hall; then, through community outreach (primarily through the club’s social media efforts which were amplified by the Mayor), 44 of those 50 flags were quickly sponsored by residents at $100 each (some club members, but many not) with a connection to those states.

The annual 4th of July Parade is arguably the best and largest single day event in the Park Cities. The 2018 Fourth of July parade took place on Wednesday, July 4th, 2018 and attracted a crowd of more than 15,000 people.
