One of the focus areas DG Beverly has chosen for this Rotary year is around addressing the need for water - right here in the United States!  Did you know over 2 million people in the US do not have access to clean drinking water?   Hard to believe isn't it?!!

We are joining in on a Global Grant out of California’s District 5280 to help provide water to homes in the Navajo Reservation near the 4 corner states, and notably in NE Arizona. In this area, 40% of families do not have access to running water or electricity, and a round trip to obtain clean water can be as far as 100 miles!

Each home (typically occupied by multiple families), will get:  a 1200 gallon clean water tank, a sink, pump, heater, solar panel, 3 lights and a carbon monoxide alarm for a cost of $4500.  We will partner with Dig Deep, (a non-profit committed to providing clean water and solar panels on the Navajo Reservations).

Today, we are taking the first district-wide step towards helping that community by asking for your club's financial commitments and/or your time.   1) Navajo Water will be one of your options for the DG Special Interest Project.   Please consider this option.   2) For any additional donations, from clubs or individuals, please contact me (Glen Thornton).  I will guide you through the proper steps; plus, being the liaison with District 5280 and the Global Grant, I will need to keep track of our district’s commitment.

Wouldn’t it be great if every club could help with a financial contribution to DG Beverly’s Navajo Water Project budget?   Think of the homes and families we will be helping!
Also, please also let me know if you, or your club, would be interested in a trip to this area next spring, to see and/or help with the installation.

As we learn more from our partners in California’s District 5280 I will keep you informed of deadlines, schedules, and opportunities, as well as the contributions District 5810 will provide to this community.

Thank you for your Service Above Self, helping families in our own “backyard”!
