Rotary Club of McKinney's unique Youth Leadership program, which provides monthly leadership and service training to 10th grade students in the McKinney area, has met twice this school year.
For their first meeting, Frisco ISD Director of Community Relations Ashley Sine facilitated a group activity, pairing students randomly. Students had to learn several facts about each other and then introduce their partner to the group, which consists of approximately thirty students from six different campuses. For their second meeting, MYL students learned how to handle peer pressure from award-winning author and McKinney Rotarian Sharon Scott, LPC, LMFT. Students role-played various peer-pressure scenarios and utilized specific strategies for handling peer pressure in healthy ways. For information about MYL, please visit McKinneyRotary.org. MYL is managed by McKinney Rotarians Becky Fortenberry and Betty Petkovsek. Special thanks to First United Methodist Church of McKinney for providing a meeting space for MYL.
