The Mesquite Rotary Club presented a donation of $2,000 to the Mesquite Police Association’s Officer Richard Houston II Memorial Highway Fund at their December 5th meeting. Accepting the check were Mesquite Police officers Jim Lakey and Eric Vasquez.
The fund was established by the MPA to raise the $40,500 cost of installing the memorial signage honoring the late officer Houston on I-635 between LaPrada Drive and Cartwright Road/Bruton Road.
The signage was manufactured and installed by TxDOT, but the markers themselves must be purchased by the community. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) installed the signage in time for the second anniversary of Officer Houston’s death. The 20-year veteran Mesquite Police officer was slain in the line of duty on Dec. 3, 2021.
