In celebration of International Literacy Day (September 8th), District 5810 hosted a Packing Party. 30 Rotarians stayed an hour after the September 9th Roundtable to pack 380 individual bags of school supplies (each contains a book, pencil pouch, colored pencils/markers, crayons, glue sticks, pencils, pens, stickers and 2 small toys) and 12 boxes of general school supplies for a total of 32 boxes weighing 853.7 pounds including 751 books.
They accomplished a lot in a short period of time while enjoying the fellowship of International Service. Thank you to everyone who made this project possible.

Additionally, Assistant Governor John Cave delivered 30 boxes containing 6,885 books collected by the Melissa Rotary Club weighing 873 pounds. PDG John Moser and Sathya Sastry, Club President, also brought books from the Allen Sunrise Rotary Club, which were packed in the 12 boxes at Roundtable.

These 62 boxes will be part of 10 pallets of supplies that will delivered by the Carnival Valor to Progreso/Merida, Mexico on November 30, 2023 in conjunction with Rotary International's Zone 25A Institute.  RI President Gordon McInally, Immediate Past President Jennifer Jones, and Vice President/Director Pat Merryweather plan to meet the ship on arrival and then join District Governor John Curtis, his wife Janie, District Governor Elect Regina Edwards, her husband Ken, Past District 4195 Governor Igor Lenin Peniche Ruiz and local Rotarians to pass out these bags of supplies at local schools.

If you would like to join this International Service project, we are still accepting donations of school supplies, books and funds to purchase school supplies for the trip. Please contact Regina Edwards at reginaedwardsdg2425@gmail.com for more details.
