The Preston Trail Rotary Club was honored to present the Ralph O’Dell Scholarship to Avelyn Jensen, a scholarship that represents far more than academic achievement alone. The Ralph O’Dell Scholarship embodies the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self,” because Ralph O’Dell himself has spent a lifetime serving others with humility, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his community. For Ralph, service was never about recognition. It was about showing up, helping others, and quietly making a difference wherever he could.
As this scholarship was presented, it felt like more than an award ceremony. It felt like the continuation of a legacy, the passing forward of the values that truly strengthen a community: compassion, character, leadership, and service.
Some scholarships recognize accomplishments. Others recognize who a person is at their core. The Ralph O’Dell Scholarship is one that honors character, heart, and the impact that serving others can leave behind.
