Train and Help Babies Walkathon volunteers ready for the race to begin!

Coppell is making a difference in reducing infant mortality worldwide, as over 300 people gathered at Andy Brown Park East on Saturday to walk and talk about lowering infant mortality and the impact it has on communities worldwide. Despite warming temperatures the Austin Elementary Marimba band played to the delight of the attendees with walkers and watchers enjoying the buzz of activity, food and conversations with some of the top practitioners of pediatrics in Texas.

The Coppell Rotary Club joined with Train and Help Babies, a local organization dedicated to bringing lifesaving equipment and advanced medical training to hospitals in high infant mortality areas to improve maternal health and infant survivability, as the major sponsor in sending a team of neonatologists and pediatricians to several locations in Karnataka, India to
teach local doctors and nurses techniques to reduce infant deaths in one of the highest areas in the world for infant mortality. Body cooling equipment, infusion systems and CPAP units are also being supplied to the area’s public hospital in Hubballi where a children’s center is being created.
Coppell Rotary Club has teamed up with the Mid-Town Rotary Club of Hubballi, India and has been awarded a grant from the Rotary Foundation to accomplish this goal. A team of eight doctors and nurses specialized in neonatal health are leaving from DFW on June 1 for a 3 week training mission in five different hospitals within Karnataka.

Train and Help Babies was formed in Coppell two years ago and the Coppell Rotary Club has made them a part of their International Avenue of Service since that time. With access to the Rotary Foundation and over 35,000 Rotary clubs worldwide, Coppell Rotary and the Coppell community is making a big impact worldwide.
