Our two students who were awarded scholarships from Rotary of Dallas have bright futures. Esther Castillo was the student body president at Woodrow Wilson, a member of Roteract and mock trial. Esther is planning to attend the University of North Texas in Denton and majoring in immigration law. She will be a first generation student and wants to help other families like hers live the American Dream. Edna Vasquez our other recipient, is the last of 5 siblings to go through DREAMTeam program. She will be attending Texas state University in the fall and majoring in electrical engineering. At Woodrow, she was a part of society of women in engineering, robotics, and student council.
At every program, we have a student share an inspirational moment. At one of our meetings this year, a junior told about a service project she had to complete for a class. The project she decided to do was create a bag of food and water for homeless people. She said one man she spoke to said he hadn’t had anything to drink for 2 days. Her interactions with the people she served that day changed her perspective. She said after her experience, she was moved to commit to serving in her life.
When you hear these stories, you know these students are special. These students are smart. They are motivated. Some of them are first generation students with dreams for bright futures.
