The Rotary Club of DeSoto recently voted to add a new community service project this year, the Parent Resource Center at on the East Middle School campus.
The DeSoto School District began working with a non-profit Serving with a Purpose (SWAP) to create a parent resource center at East Middle School in early 2020. The decision by the Club to partner in this effort came after recent eye opening site visit to the Parent Resource Center which was organized by Club President Debrah North.
The visit was hosted by SWAP Founder and President Melissa Toney. Ms. Toney indicated how excited her organization was given the opportunity to fill the needs in the DeSoto community and the interest demonstrated by Rotary Club of DeSoto to be a part of this initiative of helping families.

The parent resource center will utilize a case management approach to service initiated by a teacher or counselor referral to a student's family. The center is offering the following services to families across DeSoto ISD:
• food pantry
• clothing
• furniture (disaster or emergency resource)
• counseling
• life skills classes
• Resume Writing
• Interviewing
• Parenting
• Financial Literacy
• Other Courses

The Rotary Club of DeSoto was assigned a work room at the center with our first project the collection and usable luggage and roller bags for foster care children, the homeless and needy families.
