On October 24, 2024, DeSoto Texas Rotary Club lead by our President Velma Davison, in partnership with Shelonda Weaver the President of the Desoto High School PTSA, hosted an inspiring 1K Walk & Run at Les Zeiger Park. This event, dedicated to raising awareness for breast cancer and polio, saw enthusiastic participation from community members of all ages.
The morning was filled with vibrant energy as participants, supporters, and volunteers gathered to "show up and show out," demonstrating a united front in support of these important health causes. The event underscored the DeSoto Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self,” with all proceeds going toward breast cancer and polio research and awareness initiatives.
Walkers and runners sported pink and purple gear, symbolizing their commitment to these causes, while cheering on survivors, fighters, and those passionate about the health of their community. “Today’s event truly highlighted DeSoto’s spirit,” and “through our partnerships, we aim to bring people together to promote well-being, honor those affected, and remind everyone that support is just around the corner", echoed proudly from our beloved Desoto Texas Rotary President, Ms. Davison.
The walk was both a successful fundraiser and a memorable reminder of the power of community. As the crowd dispersed, their steps echoed a message of compassion, resilience, and the shared drive to make a difference.
