The District 5810 Four-Way Test Speech Contest will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., live via Zoom!
(… huh? … “live via Zoom” means participants will present their speeches during a Zoom session … so, everyone will be remote, socially-distant, joining via Zoom, but the speeches will be presented live and not pre-recorded).
The Four-Way Test Speech Contest in District 5810 invites local high school students to speak about various subjects while applying Rotary’s Four-Way Test – which Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor created in 1932, and Rotary International adopted in 1943.
The Four-Way Test, familiar to Rotarians worldwide, asks four ethical questions about the things we think, say, and do:
• Is it the truth?
• Is it fair to all concerned?
• Will it build good will and better friendships?
• Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
The contest invites high school students to write an original speech, of 5-7 minutes in length, applying the Rotary Four-Way Test to an issue in our everyday relationships which interests them and then present this speech first at a local Rotary club meeting’s. The winners of the local club contests advance to the District final to compete against the winners from across District 5810.
