Through a remarkable network of service and compassion, PMRC members recently helped furnish an apartment for a single mother and her three children who were rebuilding their lives after a domestic violence situation.
PMRC member and Plano Chief of Police Ed Drain, also an active member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, learned of the family’s need through a fellow fraternity brother—an associate pastor at Christian Chapel Temple of Faith Church in North Dallas.
The pastor shared on the fraternity’s communication platform that a church member had been forced to relocate to McKinney with her children and had no furniture other than air mattresses provided by the church.
Responding quickly, Ed reached out to PMRC member Steve Parry, who, along with his son Jacob, volunteered to help. Together they loaded up furniture and household goods from PMRC’s storage. Thanks to their efforts, the family’s apartment was furnished with bedroom and living room sets, as well as dishes and cooking utensils—turning an empty space into a home.
The church arranged for a 20-foot U-Haul and covered the cost of laborers to unload and set up the furnishings at the apartment.
This act of generosity highlights how PMRC’s partnerships and community connections continue to make a tangible difference in the lives of local families in need.
