It looked like the 25th Bike Rodeo was going to be cancelled this year due to Covid restrictions at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children who has hosted it in the past. But Faith Family Academy stepped forward in a huge way by combining it with the District 5810 Interact Spring Fling.
The synergy of the two events and the energy of Rotary Club of Dallas, and Interactors from across the district, made this an exceptional event.
Hundreds of local citizens were fed, face-painted, tie-died and played games. Children chose from hundreds of bikes to ride through the 8-station safety course that simulated traffic situations, sign and road markings, safety and maintenance training. At the end they were tested and received a Safe Rider ‘license’. Everyone completing the course were entered into a drawing for a new bike of their choice from 40 bikes. Win or lose everyone received a bike helmet that was fitted just for them.
Biking is a growing, and often critical, form of transportation in this area and these families were equipped, enabled, and encouraged to do so safely.
