What are your desires in your own personal education of Rotary?

As I attended the Zone Institute this past month, the word training was mentioned several times but not what you typically think in Rotary.  RI Larry Dimmitt was the first one in his speech to share about training and the importance of education in Rotary. He defined training as more like what we do with our animals, such as how to shake or catch a stick. And education is more about understanding and knowing.  So Rotary is not about training but rather about education.

What is education?  For me, education is a set of learning experiences that change your way of thinking about a specific topic, concept or idea to a deeper level of understanding.  As I attended the District Trainer Sessions, I jotted down some of those learning experiences that you may want to invest time and energy for your own personal education of Rotary.

  1. Online Learning Center - The Learning Center has more than 450 courses for members and club and district officers. (You will need to have a Rotary.Org account to be able to logon.)
  2. Learn by Topic - Rotary.org has a learning and reference page that includes topics of study.
  3. RI Digital Blog - Follow RI digital blog to get the latest news. Add WordPress.com app and follow Rotary International.
  4. District 5810 Round-table - Attend a monthly district Round Table to learn about what other clubs are doing and what’s happening near you.
