The Plano Community Rotaract Club recently led the Go Green Challenge, a two-month-long initiative that aimed to promote environmental sustainability and encourage people to adopt eco-friendly practices. The challenge kicked off in March, to celebrate World Rotaract Week, and ended in April, in support of Rotary’s area of focus: Protecting the Environment.
Wylie Rotarians fueled hot-rodders with free hot dogs as nearly 300 2-5-year olds prepared to race in the 19th Annual Wylie 500 Pedal Car Race. Families enjoyed the spring afternoon as the kids race 500 inches through Wylie's historic downtown in pedal cars supplied by Wylie merchants. Rotarians raised an extra $300 in "tips" to add to the City's donation to the local Special Olympics.
The 4th OF JULY PARADE IN PLANO will be held during PLANO'S ALL AMERICAN 4TH on Tuesday, July 4th. Located at Collin College, Spring Creek Pkwy between Jupiter Rd and Parker Rd. The festival opens at 6 p.m., the parade starts at 7:30 p.m., and fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. The festival ends at 10 p.m.
On June 3, 2023 the City of Plano celebrated its 150th birthday in Haggard Park with a free celebration for the entire community. Guests could enjoy live entertainment, cupcakes, family activities and booths with all sorts of information on the offerings from city departments. Heritage organizations were set up around the park to educate guests on various aspects of the city’s history.
In an effort to serve the homeless in our community, we decided to volunteer with Streetside Showers. This remarkable organization provides hot showers, hygiene, and clothing to the homeless and those in need. We volunteered at their Plano location as shower valets on Saturday, May 6th.
Two awards were presented to Dr. Chris Parr by Randy Wright, fellow Rotarian and long-time friend: one was for journalism and the second was for science.
Coppell Rotary and CHS Interact groups brought RISE AGAINST HUNGER to Coppell on Mya 21st. The group raised over $4,000 which provided the funds to make 10,000 meals.
On May 16, the George H. W. Bush Elementary School in Addison held a Four-Way Test Contest for students in the third, fourth and fifth grades. The contest was sponsored by the Addison Midday Rotary Club (AMRC).
Grand Prairie Metro was honored to once again serve hotdogs, chips, etc. at this year's Memorial Day Celebration hosted by Grand Prairie Parks, Arts & Recreation.
