PP Fred Brown and PP Karen Farris represented RCPC and signed the final beam for the new Health and Wellness Center at Bonton Farms. The Health and Wellness Center is the next phase in bringing essential service to this underserved neighborhood.
The Bonton area is not only in a food desert, but also in a healthcare desert. In the past decade the development of Bonton Farms has brought nutritious food, as well as a brighter future, to the area. Several years ago, they planned the next step, to build a Wellness Center. The Rotary Club of Park Cities was one of the first supporters of the project and pledged $150,000 from their Foundation. Then COVID slowed the project. Ground was finally broken in January, 2024.
The next landmark in the project was the Beam Signing, in May 2024, indicating the construction of the building is underway. It will include a clinic, classrooms, and other multipurpose areas. Plans for a bank have also been added to give residents of the area the opportunity to have checking or savings accounts. The building is expected to be complete and in use by 2025.
