A few years ago, the Plano Rotary Club learned that Children's Hospital Plano had run out of “Busy Boxes” for young patients—and they stepped in to help. These special plastic shoeboxes are filled with fidgets, puzzles, markers, books, stuffed animals, and more—offering comfort and distraction for children during hospital stays, treatments, and even EMT visits.
They also become a safe place for kids to keep their personal items during their time in care.
Each year, dedicated Rotarians Janelle Twyford-Silvis and Ron Silvis lead the effort, collecting items and assembling the boxes with support from fellow club members. This year, 100 Busy Boxes were delivered—along with large containers to help transport these meaningful gifts throughout the hospital.
It’s a simple gesture that brings comfort, distraction, and a little bit of joy to children and their families during challenging moments.
