Mesquite Rotary Club Presents Students $12,000 in Scholarships

The Mesquite Rotary Club hosted its annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon at their meeting on May 19th. At the event, scholarship awards of $1,500 each were presented to graduating students from Mesquite High School, North Mesquite High School, West Mesquite High School, Poteet High School, John Horn High School, Vroonland Vanguard High School, Sunnyvale High School, and Dallas Christian School. This investment by the club in the future of these deserving area scholars totaled $12,000.

Those receiving the $1,500 Rotary scholarships this year included Holly Hill of Dallas Christian School, Paul Griffin of Sunnyvale High School, Amarian Walker of Mesquite High School, Karyme Angeles of North Mesquite High School, Denise Manzano of West Mesquite High School, Dayana Rangel of Poteet High School, Jasmine Uribe of John Horn High School, and Javonte Jones of Vroonland Vanguard High School.

The Mesquite Rotary Club scholarship committee for 2026 was chaired by Dr. Jennifer Hammett, and also included Mike Garvey, Brad Davis, and Yolanda Shepard. In making the award decisions, the committee considered the students’ academic records, their involvement in school activities, their community service activities, and financial need.

Funding for the awards came from the Mesquite Rotary Club’s previous Rodeo Road Rally bike rides. The next ride is scheduled at E.H. Hanby Stadium on Saturday morning, June 6th.
